Kohinoor Super Kings wins Sutlej Badminton League 2.0; MP Aroa presides over prize distribution

Ludhiana, August 29, 2023: MP (Rajya Sabha) Sanjeev Arora presided over prize distribution function of Sutlej Club Badminton League 2.0 organised in the premises of the Club in Ludhiana.


On the occasion, Arora presented a trophy to the winning team Kohinoor Super Kings owned by Sunil Sachdeva and the team captain was Amit Chawla. The runners-up team was Grover Dynamic Whackers, owned by Kulwant Singh Grover and the team captain was Anuj Dhand.


Besides awarding the winning and the runners-up team, a few international and national players were also honoured by Arora and his wife Sandhya Arora. Pranaav Jerry Chopra, Arun Dhand and Lakshay Sharma were the players honoured on the occasion.


A total six teams namely Kohinoor Super Kings, Grover Dynamic Whackers, Super Stars, Onn Champions, Palm Court Warriors and Smag Strikers participated in the league. There were a total 11 players in each team. As such, a total 66 players participated in the league matches with great enthusiasm and sports spirit.


In his address, Arora congratulated the winners and all other participants for showing their sportsmanship during the matches. He spoke about the importance of sports in one's life. He said sports not only assures fitness but it also keeps youth away from bad habits such as drugs, adding that sports enables a person to develop his overall personality. He added sports also makes a person capable to face every type of challenges in life.


Arora while appreciating the work done by Club’s first woman sports secretary Dr Sulbha Jindal advised her to further improve the sports facilities and bring more such tournaments for all age groups in various sports so that the members of every age group from a family can come forward and be involved in the sports activities.


Further, Arora said even Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is promoting sports through various activities including by organising `Khedan Watan Punjab Dian’.


Arora recalled that he had been secretary of the Sutlej Club for two consecutive terms in the past and he is proud to see that the Club is being run very nicely by successive teams after him. He announced to always extend his support to the Club as and when required.


Dr Sulbha Jindal said being sports secretary of the Club she would like to thank Arora and his wife Sandhya Arora for taking out the time and for their kind words. She assured that she is in process of making an all-weather pool in the club so that members who come for swimming in the summer can continue their practice in winters as well. She added the Club will try to have a competitions like bridge and rummy for senior members so that they are also involved in sports activities.


Further, Dr Sulbha said the club will have various competitions in Badminton, Squash, Weight Lifting, Swimming, Lawn Tennis etc for youngsters. She said some very senior members that have been founder members of the club were also a part of Sutlej Badminton League 2.0, adding that participants were from 18 years to 70 years of age, which is a remarkable achievement of the club.


Dr Sulbha announced that she will be bringing more sports facilities and more tournaments in the future. She thanked everyone for extending support and making the league successful. She mentioned special thanks for the club’s general secretary Dr Ajit Singh Chawla stating that this could not have been possible without his unconditional support.
