Major airlines placed orders for purchase of 1,046 aircrafts

Ludhiana, December 5, 2203: Three major airlines namely Air India, Indigo and Akasa Air of the country have placed orders for purchase of 1,046 aircrafts, said the Minister for Civil Aviation Gen.(Dr.) V.K.Singh (Retd.) in reply to a question asked by MP (Rajya Sabha) from Ludhiana Sanjeev Arora in the ongoing winter session of Rajya Sabha.


In a statement today, Arora said he had asked whether government is aware about the number of aircrafts for which orders have been placed by airlines operating in India to meet the growing demand for air travel; and details of delivery time and break up of orders placed by various airlines.


In reply, the Minister stated that Air India Limited (Air India) has placed orders for the purchase of 470 aircraft(Airbus and Boeing) which would be delivered over a 10 year period. The aircraft will be inducted/utilised by Air India Group of companies.


InterGlobe Aviation Limited (Indigo) has placed orders for the purchase of 500 aircraft with Airbus on June 19, 2023. The deliveries of the aircraft will start from 2030.


Akasa Air had placed orders for 76 Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft, out of which 20 aircraft have already been inducted in their fleet. The remaining will be inducted by 2027.
