JGND PSOU celebrates 9th International Day of Yoga

Patiala : Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU), Patiala celebrated 9th International Day of Yoga on 21st June, 2023, with a rejuvenating yoga session at the university campus. The session was organized by the university administration, and it witnessed the participation of teaching and non-teaching staff members.


The theme for the 9th International Day of Yoga was 'Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' or 'Yoga for the Welfare of All as One World-One Family,' and the session aimed to promote physical and mental well-being among the university community and foster a healthy work-life balance. International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and support for the "CM Di Yogshala" (CMDY) initiative announced by the Chief Minister of Punjab.


The yoga session commenced with the gracious presence of Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, JGND PSOU. He inaugurated the session, and delivered an inspiring speech on the importance of yoga in our daily lives. He emphasized how yoga can contribute to stress reduction, increased flexibility, and enhanced mental clarity, thereby improving overall well-being. “The session aims to create awareness about the numerous benefits of yoga and encourage its incorporation into daily routines. Through events like these, the university encourages a culture of wellness and provides opportunities to prioritize physical and mental health,” he said.


 Prof. G.S. Batra, Dean Academic Affairs, JGND PSOU, welcomed the instructors and participants to the session and emphasized the importance of yoga and regular exercise in promoting physical and mental well-being. He further highlighted the university's support for initiatives like CMDY, which align with its vision of promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle for the entire community.


  The session was led by experienced yoga instructors from The Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, Patiala, Aman Singh and Daman Singh, who guided the participants through a series of yoga postures and breathing exercises in the common yoga protocol.


 Prof. Manjit Singh, Registrar, JGND PSOU, gave the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the university administration and all the participants at the end of the session, acknowledging their active involvement in promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Participants found the session both invigorating and relaxing, and many expressed their enthusiasm for incorporating yoga into their daily routines.
