Apollo Tyres Rural Sports Festival Kila Raipur, 83rd Edition, Feburary 3 to 5
Eshar Preet Kaur, Ludhiana January 29: Kila Raipur the village that shines like golden letters in the sports history and culture of Punjab announces, Apollo Tyres Rural Sports Festival Kila Raipur, the 83rd Edition of the games are organized by the Kila Raipur Sports Society (Patti Sohavia) from February 3 to 5 with the support of corporates, village panchayat, NRIs and dignitaries of the area. The festival attracts more than 3000 sports persons, both men and women for traditional sports and recognised sports.
The spirit of the games is highlighted by athletic endeavours of senior citizens. Sports Festival is dedicated to Late Mata Kuldeep Kaur Grewal and Kamaljit Singh Grewal (Kamal). The games are patronised by leading brands like Apollo Tyres, Limca Sportz, Omnigel and Fevicol. On the first day of the sports festival Bhangra, Giddha, Gatka, Bajigar Show, Hockey Open (Boys and Girls), Primary School National Style Kabaddi (Girls) and Runs (both groups heats), Runs 100 , 200, 400 and 1500 meters, long jump and high jump finals (boys and girls) and tug-of-war, trolley reversing competition, races for senior citizens (65 years), tyre race and paragliding show will be the main events.
Second day on February 4 Bazigar’s show, hockey (both category) semi-finals, races (70 year), 200 and 800 m races (both categories) final, Kabaddi girls' (Punjab and Haryana) show match, tug-of-war semi-finals, cycle race 3200 meters for girls and 4800 meters for boys, Primary School group Races Finals (Boys and Girls), Primary School Girls Kabaddi National Style Semi-Finals, tyre race, individual events related to heritage sports and performances of Nihang Singhs will be the main events. On February 5, Hockey All Open Final (boys and girls), Races Finals (above 70 years), 100, 400 and 800m Races (Boys and Girls) Finals, Primary School National Style Kabaddi Finals, Tug of War Finals , tyre race, the individual acts of heritage games will be contested. The final days highlight will be the All Open Kabaddi Academies competition.
Speaking about the association with Kila Raipur, Vikram Garga, Group Head, Marketing, Apollo Tyres Ltd said, “We have been working towards the development of sports at the grassroots level for many years now. And platforms such as Kila Raipur, which is considered as the Rural Olympics, perfectly aligns with our philosophy of ‘access to sports’. The rural sports festival, witnesses the highest level of performance of the athletes, like the performance of our tyres in toughest of conditions. Participation of nearly 2 lakh visitors, helps us connect with our customers, especially for the farm, passenger vehicle and two wheeler tyre segments.” Folk singers will perform the arena every evening.
The hockey teams will be awarded by Mahindra Pratap Singh Memorial Trust. Accommodation and food will be arranged for the players on all three days. Attractive cash prizes will be awarded to winners. Several VVIPs including the Hon’ble CM of Punjab and the Sports Minister is also likely to grace the occasion.
