WORKSHOP ON NUTRITION ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND MOTIVATIONAL COUNSELLING AT PAU

Ludhiana, April 26, 2023 : A Workshop on “Nutrition Entrepreneurship and Motivational Counselling” was organized by the Nutritionist Entrepreneurship Program (NEP) in collaboration with Ludhiana Chapter of Indian Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (IAPEN), India, by the Department of Food and Nutrition, College of Community Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) here today.


Dr Kiranjot Sidhu, Dean, College of Community Science, inaugurated the Workshop and motivated the students to become entrepreneurs and find a sense of fulfillment in creating and running their own business, which can be more satisfying than working for someone else. She further added that entrepreneurs play a critical role in boosting the economy by creating jobs, driving innovation and fostering competition.


The Experiential Workshop was facilitated by Dr Vishal Marwah, Program Director and Founder, NEP. Dr Marwah, in his successful innings as the Program Director, has mentored thousands of nutritionists and dietitians across India, providing expert guidance to start their business and become financially independent. He also deliberated on “An Entrepreneur’s Journey - 7 Successful Mistakes”, enriching his discourse by way of personal experiences and anecdotes. He emphasized on a wide range of topics from public speaking, content development, creative thinking skills etc. Dr Marwah also discussed various techniques for motivational counselling, essentials of online practice and skills to scale-up one’s practice as a nutritionist and dietician. He further conducted a mock counselling session with a student volunteer and demonstrated techniques to build rapport with patients, motivate them and empower them to achieve their health goals.


Dr Kiran Grover, Head, Department of Food and Nutrition, said that the Workshop was a great platform for budding and aspiring nutritionists and dieticians to hone their ‘nutripreneurship’  skills, network with like-minded professionals and stand out in the crowd. She also added that such workshops are stepping stones for students to venture out of the box. She expressed satisfaction at the successful organization of the Workshop, adding that the department would continue to take similar initiatives in the future as well.


Dr Jaspreet Kaur, Associate Professor, Government College for Girls, Ludhiana, and Vice-President, IAPEN along with Dt. Shaveta Batta, Chief Dietitian, Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H) and Secretary, IAPEN, graced the occasion along with their students and interns. The practicing dietitians and life members of IAPEN, Ludhiana Chapter and others across Ludhiana, also attended the Workshop. They appreciated the speaker for his efforts in instilling self-determination and self-belief in the students.


More than 200 students benefitted from the Experiential Workshop and expressed satisfaction at the amount of information shared therein. Student participants also shared their valuable feedback and wished for more knowledge based workshops to be held.
